Knowing others is intelligence; Knowing yourself is true wisdom.
Mastering others is strength; Mastering yourself is true power.
~ Lao Tzu
The standard normal distribution is often called the Bell Curve because the graph of its probability density resembles a bell. The Bell Curve is a phenomenon that you can find everywhere, in organisations and amongst individuals. For instance, the bell curve of talent in an organisation could be plotted as follows: 10-20-60-10 (Total:100%).
The top 10% is the crème de la crème, the brains of the organisation. The next 20%, the aspiring ambitious. The majority 60% are the diligent employees who keep the organisation running. The bottom 10% is usually the marginal performers, whose motivation may be after work hours.
- Where are you on the Curve?
- Where are your employees on the Curve?
- Where is your organisation on the Curve?
Your answer would determine to a significant extent your performance, your team’s performance and your organisation’s performance.
When you understand the Bell, you will understand your capacity.
You will know how far you can go, and what you must do to go further.
