Does Training Work?

“Training works only if there is a skill gap”

If the problem is related to personal motivation, limited resources, extremely busy bosses or too well established corporate policies, then training would not work.

Do not send your employees for training to clock in training hours, training places or to comply with national averages. Your organization is not average, nor are your employees. Treat them as special, and they will go the extra mile for you!

By the way, training and development is passé. In the 24/7 economy, it is about learning and performance. Without performance, learning is futile. Organizational investments in learning (training) are usually wasted with no accountability, because learning is tough.

Learning is about developing new mental pathways and know-how to perform better at work. Most training programmes do not address how learners learn, which means the results are minimal. Happy sheets (level one course evaluation) do not count, because laughter and fun at training programmes do not translate into performance back at work.

To ensure performance from learning, there must be performance indicators (pre and post course) and participant ownership. As you probably know, employees often do what is inspected (measured), not what is expected. That is why we work closely with you before any programme to develop indicators to track learning outcomes and on-the-job performance.

At PMR, we do not teach. We facilitate learning.

Your employees will know exactly what and why they need to learn, and how to apply their new knowledge to improve their performance and their returns back at work. When employees meet their performance targets, your organization will inevitably achieve yours too.
